The Summer I Learned How To Interview
Role
Videographer and Editor
Date
June 2023
Location
Adair, OK
During this internship I was a videographer and editor for New Life Ranch Frontier Cove during their summer camp weeks. Every day I had a strict schedule of events that I had to shoot. In between activities I would upload footage and edit the weekly video. At least one if not two short videos were expected as final deliverables every week. I learned to collaborate with videographers and photographers so that together we could cover all the events to produce a fun, high quality video for the kids and their parents to watch after camp was over.
At this point, I had already done one interview video and had a lot of things to learn from it. I learned a lot of choosing good locations to film so that skin color looks natural and the background is not blown out. I had learned how to use an audio recording device attached to a lapel mic and how to properly place them on a person. I learned how to ask questions in a way that would get the interviewee to expand on their answer. I also learned to create a word essay out of the words spoken in the many interviews I conducted for this video.
